About Us

About the Clinic

At Southwest Modern Medicine, we believe healthcare should be personal, accessible, and focused on you. That’s why we use a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model—where your care is covered by a simple monthly membership.

No insurance is needed for office visits, and you'll have direct access to your provider through visits, secure messaging, and email. This means no more long wait times and fewer urgent care visits.

With a small patient panel (about 500 members), we can spend more time with you, get to know your health goals, and focus on wellness, not just illness.

We also offer discounted lab and imaging rates, plus access to top specialists through nationwide consults—so you get the care you need, without unnecessary delays or surprise bills.

Southwest Modern Medicine was built to give you better care, on your terms.

About the Provider

Eva Houghton, MSN, FNP-BC is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who has been caring for patients in Albuquerque for over 13 years.

A native New Mexican, Eva began her nursing career in Denver after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Regis University. She later returned to her home state to complete her Master of Science in Nursing at the University of New Mexico, specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner.

Eva’s decision to open Southwest Modern Medicine was born from both professional passion and personal experience. She was first introduced to Direct Primary Care (DPC) when a close friend opened a practice in Texas, and she later became a DPC patient herself after struggling to find timely care in Albuquerque. That firsthand experience showed her just how effective, compassionate, and patient-centered DPC could be.

By founding Southwest Modern Medicine, Eva is able to practice medicine the way she believes it should be—focused on strong relationships, timely access, and individualized care. Her patients are not just numbers; they are people she gets to know, support, and guide in their health.

Eva is a member of both the New Mexico Nurse Practitioner Council and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, reflecting her ongoing commitment to professional development, advocacy, and excellence in advanced practice nursing.

Outside of the clinic, Eva stays busy with her husband Vince and their three energetic elementary-aged children. She is deeply rooted in her community and passionate about building a healthier New Mexico—one patient at a time.
